The student must be a senior and have a “C” average or
better. This decision should not be based on the student
who has the highest GPA among the team but based on the overall performance of the individual student/athlete. Recipient
should be a well-rounded individual.

The student/athlete must be continuing
his/her education at an accredited institution.
The school can be a trade school, a junior college,
or a university.

The student athlete must have at least 2 years of team participation
with a minimum of four sports seasons completed and be competing in at
least one of those in his/her senior year.
For example, a student athlete could compete in
X-country and Outdoor Track sophomore year and then Indoor and Outdoor Track. Senior year or any similar combination. We
are looking for student/athletes who have shown team loyalty throughout
their years at Somerville High School.

The student
must have practiced with the team as required by the coach the majority of
the sport’s season. Extracurricular school, community, & career
activities that take the student/athlete out of practice are acceptable with
the approval of the coach. A student who shows up just for meets
or practices when he/she feels like it will be subject to disqualification.

The coaches
must consider the student to be an asset to the team based on performance
leadership abilities or team dedication. The student/athlete need not be MVP, high point
scorer, record breaker or team captain. The student should have received a
coach’s max-effort award sometime during his/her years of
team participation to meet this criterion.

The student or his/her parent /guardian
must have participated in volunteer work during any SHS Track PAC sponsored fundraising event.

This committee requires all interested
seniors to submit an application and a statement as to why he/she needs, wants or deserves this award.
There is no
limit or required length of the statement. A track coach or a committee
member must receive the application no later than April
30 of the graduating year. All coaches should forward applications to the
committee chairperson.

Coaches must verify the student /athlete
has met the proposed criteria before the committee can discuss who will be
the recipient of each award. Coaches may be
consulted for verification of a student/athlete’s school history,
participation or any other relevant information that may assist the
committee and their decision.
The decision of the committee is final.
All recipients will be notified at the
year-end awards banquet. A trophy may be presented at the banquet, but all money
will be distributed to the recipient after the Track PAC Treasurer has
received proof of registration at the accredited institution.
All scholarship money must be claimed within
a two-year period from the date of the award. All unclaimed money will
be forfeited and returned to the scholarship fund for future book award
winners.
