  1. The student must be a senior and have a “C” average or better. This decision should not be based on the student who has the highest GPA among the team but based on the overall performance of the individual student/athlete.  Recipient should be a well-rounded individual.

  2. The student/athlete must be continuing his/her education at an accredited institution. The school can be a trade school, a junior college, or a university.

  3. The student athlete must have at least 2 years of team participation with a minimum of four sports seasons completed and be competing in at least one of those in his/her senior year. For example, a student athlete could compete in X-country and Outdoor Track sophomore year and then Indoor and Outdoor Track. Senior year or any similar combination. We are looking for student/athletes who have shown team loyalty throughout their years at Somerville High School.

  4. The student must have practiced with the team as required by the coach the majority of the sport’s season. Extracurricular school, community, & career activities that take the student/athlete out of practice are acceptable with the approval of the coach. A student who shows up just for meets or practices when he/she feels like it will be subject to disqualification.

  5. The coaches must consider the student to be an asset to the team based on performance leadership abilities or team dedication. The student/athlete need not be MVP, high point scorer, record breaker or team captain. The student should have received a coach’s max-effort award sometime during his/her years of team participation to meet this criterion.

  6. The student or his/her parent /guardian must have participated in volunteer work during any SHS Track PAC sponsored fundraising event.

  7. This committee requires all interested seniors to submit an application and a statement as to why he/she needs, wants or deserves this award. There is no limit or required length of the statement. A track coach or a committee member must receive the application no later than April 30 of the graduating year. All coaches should forward applications to the committee chairperson.

  8. Coaches must verify the student /athlete has met the proposed criteria before the committee can discuss who will be the recipient of each award.  Coaches may be consulted for verification of a student/athlete’s school history, participation or any other relevant information that  may assist the committee and their decision.

The decision of the committee is final.

All recipients will be notified at the year-end awards banquet. A trophy may be presented at the banquet, but all money will be distributed to the recipient after the Track PAC Treasurer has received proof of registration at the accredited institution.

All scholarship money must be claimed within a two-year period from the date of the award.  All unclaimed money will be forfeited and returned to the scholarship fund for future book award winners.
